Brawn reveals plans: "Everyone is tested for coronavirus every two days"

Meanwhile, the first ten Grands Prix of the 2020 calendar in Formula 1 have been postponed or cancelled (in the case of Monaco). At the beginning of July the Red Bull Ring should start again in Austria. Ross Brawn has indicated at Sky Sports how the Formula 1 is planning to organize all this, because it is very radical.

Formula 1 is expected to be the first major sports event to be held in the corona crisis. Spectators will not be welcome. The attendees on the paddock of the circuit will be tested all together, so that the risk of spreading and contamination of the coronavirus will be reduced.

A coronavirus test every two days

“We’re working very closely with the FIA", says Brawn. The Liberty Media top man is grateful to the International Motorsport Association for its efforts during this difficult period. "They are doing a great job of putting together the structure we need. Everybody will be tested and will have a clearance before they even go in, and then every two days they’ll be tested while in the paddock and that will be with an authorised authority and consistent."

Formula 1 hopes to organize several more Grands Prix in Europe between July and September. "Certainly for all the European races, we’ll be using the same facility to conduct that testing. And we can ensure that everybody has been tested who is in that environment and tested regularly.", explained the Briton.

F1 teams on their own

Within the teams it is very difficult to do the required one and a half meters. “We cannot socially distance a team, we cannot have staff socially-distanced. So we have to create an environment that, within itself, is effectively a small bubble of isolation. And the teams will stay within their own groups. They won’t mingle with other teams, and they’ll stay at their own hotels. There are no motorhomes going to be there."
