'Formula 1 is looking at private companies for its own corona tests'

The Grands Prix of Austria and Great Britain are the next on the Formula 1 calendar, but prior to those events large-scale tests will be necessary, which will not be cheap.

That's what Stuart Pringle said in an interview with The Guardian. The director of the Silverstone circuit can often be heard about the possible race at Silverstone, but also knows that there is a downside to the urge to start racing again. A lot of testing is necessary, but at a high price.

Everyone needs to be tested

''F1 is now busy discussing how to introduce some form of testing to allow the championship to take place despite all the travel. It seems clear to me that this will not be cheap, but Formula 1 certainly feels the need to ensure that everyone who comes to the paddock is really healthy," says Pringle.

According to The Guardian, the sport itself will pay for the tests and is looking for private companies that do not supply to health organizations. It wants to be able to assure the government of the countries that all staff have tested negative. However, it has to be tested on a large scale, because with a maximum of 80 people per team, more than 800 people will be eligible for the test, not even counting that the race has to be broadcast, the Formula 1 organization has to be present and also a lot of local employees. This means that at least 200 extra people need to be tested.
