Lando Norris just doesn't seem to get enough of sim racing. For more than a month, he's been on one of the virtual circuits almost every day and shares his adventures in one of the many championships with his fans on Twitch. There will be another championship this weekend.

The McLaren driver will participate in the IndyCar iRacing Challenge, a championship that was created by the IndyCar organisation itself and can therefore be compared to the Virtual Grand Prix series that was started by Formula 1.

Online IndyCar championship most serious replacement

However, while Formula 1 may be pleased to see a third of the current F1 field for online racing, the virtual championship of the IndyCar can be seen more as a serious replacement for the real thing. Due to the enthusiasm among the drivers and more pressure from the IndyCar organization itself, the last few races an almost complete IndyCar starting field appeared online.

In line with this, IndyCar has urged Arrow McLaren SP on several occasions to make use of their connection with the Formula 1 team. This way Fernando Alonso would also have been keen to participate in the iRacing championship. However, Lando Norris is now the first one to do so.

It's a good time to get in the car for Norris, because this weekend's race will be held at the Circuit of the Americas. The cars may be relatively new to him, but he knows the circuit like the back of his hand. The race will be broadcasted live in the United States by NBC sports.
