Racing Point opened up some eyes during the first week of testing. Their new car looks very similar to last year's Mercedes and of course, they run with a Mercedes engine and other parts. While this caused some question marks in the paddock, Christian Horner is actually a fan.

Andrew Green, the technical man at Racing Point, has made it clear that they have looked closely at the team's previous Mercedes car. Horner doesn't understand why teams have problems with it.

“I think collaborations are very logical. How do teams like AlphaTauri, Racing Point, Haas and even Alfa Romeo want to be competitive if they are not allowed to buy gearboxes and wheel suspensions? All the R&D that they have to carry out themselves will demand a lot of resources from them," the team boss tells The Race.

In the case of the Racing Point car, according to some teams, it only goes a little further. "Of course, some teams go a little further with cloning than others, but as long as they don't break the rules, I don't really have a problem with it."

Moreover, according to the Red Bull Racing team boss, there are a number of advantages that come with copying cars. “For Liberty Media, it provides a more competitive field. For the teams, it makes the sport a lot more affordable. Of course, you don't want ten cars to look alike, but I think there are some elements that make a lot of sense," says Horner.
