McLaren was one of the biggest surprises of the 2019 season, coming through to finish in fourth in the constructors' standings, ahead of Renault. This makes the team very much the best of the rest behind the top three teams.

The team secured 145 points across the season, 23 ahead of Renault in the final standings.

"I think the biggest change has just been a fresh start," Lando Norris said to  MotorSportweek.com. "Two new drivers, new people in the team and new management with Andreas Seidl.

“Many things have been adjusted within the team, but at the same time, the mentality has also changed

"Because things have been going so badly in recent years, we have set the bar less high this season than other years. After Abu Dhabi, everyone was always looking forward to the new season and what McLaren would do the following year because the team's expectations were high. We didn't do that this year".

Norris himself, finished in 11th place on 49 points while his teammate Carlos Sainz managed to break into the top six, scoring 96 points
