BREAKING: Nicholas Latifi to drive for Williams in 2020!
Nicholas Latifi will drive for Williams next season, replacing the outgoing Robert Kubica. The Canadian has been Williams' reserve driver in 2019 and always looked likely for a seat, with Kubica announcing he would be leaving the team a few weeks back.
Latifi currently sits second in Formula 2 ahead of this weekend's season finale in Abu Dhabi, where he will be looking to fight off challengers to confirm his position, with Nyck de Vries already taking the title.
The 24-year old has driven in Friday practice multiple times for the team this year and will partner George Russell in 2020.
Team principal Claire Williams said: “I am delighted to announce that Nicholas will be stepping up to the role of Race Driver to partner George in 2020.
"All of us at Williams have been immensely impressed at what he has achieved this year in FIA Formula 2, along with his commitment to the team, and the work that he has put in behind the scenes.
"Nicholas has become an established and well-respected member of Williams, and we look forward to him stepping up into this new role, as we look to fight our way back to the midfield.”
