Williams admits reducing weight is something they must target

Claire Williams has admitted it is easier for the bigger teams to reduce the weight of their car whilst teams like Williams have to focus on the aerodynamics of their vehicle.

The Williams team have been a long way off the pace of the rest of the field for most of the season with their partnership of George Russell and Robert Kubica only able to score one point which came in Germany from Kubica.

Their season was set back before it had even begun as their car was late to pre-season testing in Barcelona and their regular season hasn't been much better.

Claire Williams admitted the team must tackle their weight issue but revealed it is further down their priority list because of costs.

"The weight problem is something that we have debated for many hours and I think it is something that needs to be addressed. We need to find ways to reduce the weight," Williams told GPToday.net.

"Not just to improve racing and to drive the cars better for the drivers, but if it is not done through the rules, then some teams will try it on their own.

"The larger teams can reduce the weight because it entails enormous costs to reduce the weight of an F1 car.
