What is the weather forecast for qualifying ahead of German Grand Prix?

Hockenheim has been blessed with virtually wall-to-wall sunshine since the teams and drivers arrived on Wednesday/Thursday. But that looks likely to change as we head into what might be a wet qualifying session.

Thursday was the hottest day, but Friday wasn't far behind. The second practice session was unrealistic as the air temperature of 36c, and the track temperature of around 60c won't be felt again.

In preparation for this kind of event, Mercedes has altered their car and adjusted part of the bodywork to avoid a repeat of the Austrian Grand Prix. The only race which Lewis Hamilton has failed to finish inside the top two during the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Overnight, the Hockenheim circuit was greeted with thunderstorms and heavy rain. The track may well be pretty green today, certainly for FP3 but likely for qualifying. If the rain stays off, that should play into the hands of Valtteri Bottas

According to the latest weather report, there's less than 50% chance of rain during qualifying, but 60%-80% chance of rain during Sunday's German Grand Prix. Maximum temperature should drop to around 27c.
