Lewis Hamilton made contact with the wall during Friday's FP2 session in Canada. He picked up a puncture and needed to change his gearbox as a result of the contact.

However, the Mercedes driver will avoid a grid penalty for the incident because he was running with an old component. He didn't come back out for the remainder of the session, and Hamilton described the feeling similar to "sitting in the headmaster's office".

According to the sporting rules, drivers are not allowed to use more than one gearbox per six races. Those six races for the first gearbox have now passed, but Hamilton was lucky on Friday that he was still driving around with the same gearbox. The new gearbox will only be put on for Saturday's events.
