Moto GP riders Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo believe that Lewis Hamilton could be ready to sample a MotoGP bike. Speaking at the Petronas Yamaha SRT and Petronas Sprinta Racing launch event in Malaysia, both admitted that they supported the move.

The Petronas link between the bike and Mercedes F1 teams could open a path for Hamilton to achieve a long-held ambition of trying a MotoGP bike.

His affinity for two wheels also extends to a partnership with MV Agusta and a collaborative effort between both parties resulting in a limited edition bike named after the F1 champion.

In an interview with Crash.net, both riders admitted that the switch could and should happen sooner rather than later. Sepang CEO Razlan Razali also believes the move would be a positive step and wouldn't be surprised if it was eventually sorted.

“Working with Petronas, they are very aggressive in their engagement and activation. I would not be surprised if sooner rather than later they get Lewis Hamilton involved," Razali said.

The riders themselves also expressed how keen they were to see the switch happen, with Morbidelli saying he would let the five-time champion have a shot on his bike even if it meant the favour wasn't reciprocated.

“If Lewis wants to try my MotoGP bike, I can give it to him right away – even if I can’t try the F1 car,” he said.

Quartararo was also enthusiastic about a swap happening down the line.

"It would be a dream to try his car! I love Formula One. I do karting at home. I also like driving my own car, although I try not to go so fast on the street!"
