Wolff does not want to alienate fans

Mercedes have become the front-runners in the F1 business with five successive titles, but team boss Toto Wolff is hoping not to alienate fans as they bid for more.

Lewis Hamilton has won four World Championships from the last five only being beaten by teammate Nico Rosberg in 2016.

Despite this Wolff wants to keep fans onside who could cheer for the underdogs.

"I think it is in the nature of the fan that you cheer for the underdog," Wolff told Reuters.

"Serial winners lose a little bit of appeal.

"What we are trying to do is to approach our sport and our participation with modesty and humility, not take anything for granted.”

Despite being seemingly unbeatable by the end of the season, there have been times where the teams crown has genuinely been threatened and Wolff admitted the team can’t be complacent.

"We should never ever have a feeling of entitlement of winning.

"You can, to a certain degree, if you stay true to these values continue to grow your fan following and continue to have the fans cheering for you although you have won a few times in a row,"
