Mexico Grand Prix in doubt

The Mexican Grand Prix is in doubt after Andes Manuel Lopez Obrador took charge as the countries President.

Many Mexican newspapers are reporting that the Mexican Grand Prix will be scrapped as part of the new President’s more sober regime.

Lopez Obrador announced he was going to be selling several superfluous properties and the presidential plane as well as opening his luxury residence to the public.

The Grand Prix was only reintroduced in 2015 after a 23-year absence and the contract runs until 2019 but Ana Gabriela Guevara (National Sports Commission of Mexico) explained how corruption caused the Grand Prix to return to Mexico.

“The corruption in this country has caused the Grand Prix to return to Mexico, and a lot of bribes were paid to bring this event to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

“Sitting parliament has taken place."

The former athlete insisted a resolution needed to be reached saying: “We need to find out how we can solve this situation, but it is not the intention that tax money will be released to keep this event in. In Mexico, there are worse things going on as a large part of the population lives below the poverty line."
