Toro Rosso have announced the signing of Alexander Albo to complete their line-up 2019, with the Thai-British driver filling up the second seat at the team next to Daniil Kvyat.

The 22-year-old had a very good season in Formula 2, finishing third in the championship behind Williams-bound George Russell in first place and McLaren-bound Lando Norris in second place. This means that it's all over in F1 for Brendon Hartley, with the Kiwi not having performed good enough at Red Bull's development team to prolong his stay for another year.

Albon has been part of Red Bull's junior program ever since 2012, when he first starting racing in open-wheel cars. He was Charles Leclerc's teammate in 2016 during the GP3-season, and he finished runner-up to the Monegasque in the championship that year.

Both of them moved on to Formula 2, where Leclerc once again won the title in 2017. Albon finished tenth that season, but turned things around in 2018 by winning four races and finishing third in the championship. His form in the second half of the season was noteworthy in particular, with a switch seemingly being flipped by him.

Albon was already signed at Nissan for next year's Formula E season, but he broke that partnership off earlier today as he wanted to pursue Formula 1!
