Briatore has successful heart operation after benign tumour found

29 March - 09:30

Flavio Briatore has had successful surgery on his heart, he says on his social media. The flamboyant Italian - currently the manager of Fernando Alonso - has had a benign tumour removed.

The former Benetton and Renault team boss went for a routine check-up at a hospital in Milan just under two weeks ago and that is where the tumour was then diagnosed. Briatore went under the knife quickly, and so the operation was a success.

"Hello everyone. Ten days ago, I went to San Raffaele Hospital for a check-up, and at that moment, they found a benign tumour in my heart. The doctors intervened immediately and here I am, to tell you about it," said Briatore, who has since returned home.

The 72-year-old businessman also has a message for his followers. "The most important thing, guys, is to do the prevention, the check-up, every year. I did it two years ago, and then I didn't have this benign tumour, and this year I do. We should not be careless. Prevention is fundamental."
