Since the new 2022 technical regulations, Formula 1 has experienced a phenomenon: porpoising. Drivers have complained about it many times. McLaren driver Lando Norris is now really sounding the alarm and thinks there should be a change.

The introduction of a new generation of Formula 1 cars has not only shaken up the order on the grid, but it has also made the cars look very different. The F1 cars are now use ground effect.

Porpoising causes physical complaints

We have entered the third year of the new technical regulations. When the rules went into effect, Mercedes and McLaren, in particular, suffered from these additional problems. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have repeatedly spoken out about how it is really not good to drive a car that bounces like this. Now Lando Norris is also sounding the alarm. "Could it be better? And was it better a few years ago with the old cars? 100%," the McLaren driver told Motorsport.com. "There's definitely certain people who think it's not bad and that it used to be worse many years ago and all of this stuff, but I think times have changed. I think we do complain sometimes, but certain things are also for good reason, for our own bodies and the safety and health side of things. So I think there's areas to improve on it for sure."

Norris does not blame the Formula 1 teams for the car being so low. They obviously want to develop the fastest car possible. So the responsibility lies with the FIA, which comes up with the rules. "I think it does need to be improved a little bit - because the teams just make the quickest cars, and then we drive them. There's certain times when it starts to have a toll. It's definitely not as bad as what it was two years ago. Things have improved since then, with porpoising and all of this. But you still have to run the cars extremely low and stiff, and all of these things. And this takes a toll on you. But I think things in the long term need to be improved, especially if I want to be here for many years.”
