An investigation was recently launched into FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem for interfering with the result of the 2023 Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. He also allegedly tried to have the Las Vegas Grand Prix cancelled. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff gave his opinion on Sky Sports.

""I can clearly remember the situation [in Jeddah in 2023] because it was a bit strange. First there was the penalty, then it was withdrawn, even though the case was actually clear. But the FIA will follow its processes here. I am convinced of that. I think we have all learned that we have to be transparent," the Austrian explained.

"We are at the top of the sport and we have a lot of fans. Then things happen that simply don't belong here and are not what most people here want," concluded the 52-year-old Mercedes boss.

Mercedes and Wolff not very positive

After the first two free practice sessions prior to the race in Saudi Arabia, Mercedes were not particularly optimistic. Wolff stated that drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton had little confidence in the team's W15. Hamilton came in early during the second free practice session after it was clear he had engine problems.
