Normally the silly season in Formula 1 starts around summer, but by early 2024 it is already in full swing. Many seats will become vacant after this year, including Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes seat. Fernando Alonso is one of the drivers linked to the seat, but Aston Martin has no intention of letting him go just like that.

Aston Martin: "We want Fernando"

Recently, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was spotted with none other than Flavio Briatore, the former Benetton team boss (later Renault) and Alonso's current manager. This further fuelled rumours of a possible switch for the 42-year-old Spaniard. However, Alonso insists that he will first enter talks with his current team about a seat for 2025.

For Mike Krack too, Mercedes' interest in his driver has not gone unnoticed. "To be honest, the talks are not difficult because we are dealing with mature people. It's nice to see that everyone just makes their points clear. There are not many tactics. We want Fernando. We made that clear from the beginning. And then it's a matter of finalising it," he said in conversation with F1TV.

"I think he has said it before. He would like to stay, but he also feels the attraction of other teams. So we will see what the next few weeks bring. But we are confident we can continue," said the Aston Martin team boss.
