Since the news came out that Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes after this season, drivers seem to be lining up to take over the spot. Pierre Gasly has also announced that he will enter talks with Mercedes.

Gasly has been driving at Alpine since 2023. In this season, the Frenchman managed one podium. Before that, he drove for the former AlphaTauri. Despite Gasly stating at the presentation of the new Alpine that his focus is currently with the French team, F1.com reports that his management will soon contact Mercedes. "Talks are anticipated" between Alpine driver Gasly and Mercedes as they "weigh up their options". "His management are expected to accelerate their exploration of other opportunities in the coming weeks."

Could Gasly go to Mercedes?

Gasly's contract at Alpine still runs until the end of this season. Alpine team boss Bruno Famin is also aware of that. "We were talking before the Hamilton announcement, we have talked since. We know what we want. We will see how the market develops. Of course, we are looking at everything. We have to be ready in case. Nobody knows what can happen. Let’s be vigilant."

Who will end up in Hamilton's seat remains to be seen. Mercedes team boss-Toto Wolff has previously indicated that there will be no rush in making this decision. The Austrian said then that this might be an opportunity to do something crazy.
