With Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes from 2025, there is an empty seat to fill at a top team. This is causing much speculation about who will take this spot. Several names have been mentioned, including that of Alexander Albon. F1 journalist Peter Windsor is almost certain that he will not go to Mercedes, but to Red Bull Racing.

Due to the extraordinary performance Albon showed at Williams last season, he is widely linked with the empty seat at Mercedes. The 27-year-old driver still has a contract at Williams until the end of 2025, but rumours have been running for a while that he wants to get out of this contract early. This could possibly have to do with the empty seats that are going to be there from the start of 2025.

'Albon to Red Bull from 2025'

In a livestream on his own YouTube channel, Peter Windsor says he is 90% sure Albon will take the spot next to Max Verstappen from 2025. The Thai-British driver was already teammates with Verstappen from mid-2019 until the end of 2020.

Windsor says he has heard the following: "As I understand it, he has been offered a three-year contract by Red Bull to start in 2025. So I think you are going to see him alongside Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. I can't imagine his going to say 'no' to that. Equally, that's as I understand it is not a 100%, it is probably 90% correct I think. So I think you are going to see him in a really good car."

The F1 journalist stresses that nothing has been signed yet. Where Sergio Perez will go from 2025, if this rumour is true, is still unclear.
