Hamilton: Mercedes still working on car performance issues

10-11-2018 09:06

Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes engineers are working on car performance issues discovered in the Brazilian practice yesterday. The German team finished on top in the second session with a 1-2 finish. But a 3-6 finish in FP1 demonstrated some vulnerability.

The team haven't been dominant in the last two race weekends despite all of the jubilations. Hamilton says the car is starting to feel better again, but there's work to be done.

“The car felt better than it did in Mexico, but we are still working our way through some issues,” Hamilton said in an interview on Crash.

“The pace doesn't seem too bad, so we just have to keep working on it and improving it. In FP2, it was quite windy and very gusty through the corners, which meant that the car was actually quite tricky to drive."

There are showers forecast for the race on Sunday which could well make conditions even trickier. Charlie Whiting this morning has confirmed the FIA won't give teams an extra set of intermediate tyres for FP3 because the forecast looks okay for Saturday.
