Guenther Steiner has given an initial reaction to the non-renewal of his contract at the Haas Formula 1 team. The former team boss confirmed that he was not given the chance to say goodbye to the staff at Haas F1's factory.

Steiner reacts to departure from Haas F1 for first time

Steiner attended the Autosport International Show and spoke to Sky Sports commentator David Croft. Logically, his departure from Haas soon came up. The 58-year-old explained that he received the phone call between Christmas and New Year telling him that his contract would not be renewed.

He also confirmed that he was not able to say goodbye to the Haas team staff at the factory. As soon as Steiner entered the podium, he first of all thanked the team and fans.

As to the reason behind his departure, the ex-team boss says F1 has changed a lot due to the budget cap and the post-corona pandemic period, among others. He admits that Haas' approach may "no longer be relevant", but stresses that it was a good approach when the team entered the sport in 2016.

Whether we will see him back in the F1 paddock he leaves open to question. "Staying in Formula 1 just to do a job isn’t something I want for me," Steiner said. He did confirm that he will be present at some races and that he "might still be seen on TV". The latter may be cautiously good news for fans of the team principall, who became hugely popular through the Netflix series Drive to Survive.
