An era came to an end on Wednesday with the departure of Guenther Steiner at Haas F1. The team boss had to walk through the exit door, having had regular disagreements with team boss Gene Haas. Moreover, there was no improvement in the American team's performance. Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg bid farewell to the Italian on X.

Whereas it is common in a farewell message to point out the successes and qualities of the departing person, this was not the case with both Hulkenberg and Magnussen. The pair mostly addressed the character of the flamboyant (ex-)team boss. Magnussen wrote: "Thanks, Günther. Thanks for taking me on the journey in 2017 and thanks for bringing me on board again in 2022. It has been both fun and tremendously challenging – but never boring. So long and all the best."

Hulkenberg sees a friend leave

Nico Hulkenberg, who did not make his entrance at Haas until the start of the 2023 season, had similar words for the Italian with an American passport: "Thanks, Guenther. For your trust, friendship and the opportunity to go racing in F1 again! You're definitely a character.. all the best!"
