It is no secret that Max Verstappen is a big sports fan. The three-time Formula 1 champion obviously knows all about motorsport. The Dutchman also closely follows football. There is probably another sport that Verstappen keeps a close eye on: handball. His nephew Kaj Geenen currently plays in the Dutch handball team. This week, the 20-year-old will hunt for the European title with the Dutch team.

Could Max Verstappen travel to Germany this week to see his cousin Kay at work? Either way, Max Verstappen will definitely keep an eye on the exploits of Geenen - named Talent of the Year in the Netherlands last season. "They know I play handball at a high level and Max, Jos and (sister) Victoria also ask me all the time how things are going," Geenen told L1 earlier.

Following in Max Verstappen's footsteps?

Geenen only played one season for North Limburg-based Bevo, before being brought to Germany by VfL Lübeck-Schwartau. There, the corner player is currently in his first season in the Second Bundesliga. His performances in Germany did not go unnoticed by national coach Staffan Olsson, who included Geenen in his squad. The Oranje are not favourites for the title during the European final, but will at least want to survive the first round. And then who knows?

Geenen undoubtedly hopes to become as successful in his sport as his famous cousin. "Our family is very proud of what he has already achieved in his career. Sometimes when I hear him over the board radio, I recognise myself in that. If I go for something, I want to achieve it just like Max," Geenen previously stated to the Limburg broadcaster.
