Adrian Newey is often seen as the mastermind behind the concepts of the cars Red Bull had. Is this justified, or does he have a different role within the team. Red Bull Racing technical director Pierre Waché told Motorsport.com more about the work of the British chief technical officer.

Newey has been working for Red Bull Racing since 2006. In his years at the Austrian racing team, the team has won seven drivers' and six constructors' titles. Often, these titles are traced to the car concepts the Briton came up with.

How involved is Newey in Red Bull's car concept?

Waché explained. "When it comes to engineering, Adrian obviously has the most experience on the entire grid. We have to use that experience well, because he has less time for us these days. I don't know how to put this in English, but he is there more to challenge us. He is not there to make the full plan, so the full concept of the car." The French technical director goes on to say that Newey is open-minded regarding others' ideas, and that at Red Bull he acts as a kind of mentor.
