Who is Geri Halliwell?

Geraldine Estelle Halliwell, as Geri Halliwell is known in full, was born on 6 August 1972 in Watford, Hertfordshire. Geri is a daughter of Ana Maria and Laurence Francis. Mother Ana Maria came from Spain, father Laurence Francis has Scandinavian roots in Sweden and Finland.

Halliwell grew up in England and started a music career soon after leaving school. She worked as a dancer in Majorca, presented the Turske version of Let's Make a Deal and is a model. At 19, Halliwell made her first appearance on page three of The Sun and also made an appearance in magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse in 1998.

Spice Girls

Geri Halliwell's real breakthrough came in 1994 when she formed a girl band with Melanie Jayne Chisholm (Melanie C), Melanie Janine Brown (Mel B) and Victoria Caroline Adams (now Victoria Beckham). The magazine The Stage put out a call to start a girl band. From over 400 entries, the girls won and, together with Emma Bunton, they became the group Touch.

In 1995, the girls broke with their original management, Heart Management, and joined forces with Virgin Records in March 1995. The girl group's name was also changed to Spice Girls. The debut album Spice became a worldwide sensation, including 'Wannabe' as a song that will be recognised by almost everyone.

On 31 May 1998, Halliwell announced that she had left the girl group Spice Girls due to depression and disagreements with the group. This was not received with thanks by Geri, as a tour in North America was scheduled. The tour was eventually completed without Ginger Spice.

On 29 June 2007, the Spice Girls announced they were back together and plans were made for a reunion tour. This Reunion Tour was accompanied by a compilation album Greatest Hits. The tour began on 2 December 2007. On 31 December 2007, the Spice Girls documentary Spice Girls: Giving You Everything was also released.

Ginger Spice

After the release of the single Wannabe, Top of the Pops came up with nicknames for each singer of the band. Those names were later adopted by everyone. Geri Halliwell became Ginger Spice, because of her red hair colour. Mel B became Scary Spice, Melanie C was Sporty Spice, Emma Bunton was Baby Spice and Victoria Beckham was Posh Spice.

Geri Halliwell's solo career

After her success with the Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell also embarked on a solo career. In 1999, she released her debut album Schizophonic. It was followed by Scream If You Wanna Go Faster (2001) and Passion (2005). Besides singing, Geri Halliwell also wrote books. The children's series Ugenia Lavender was particularly successful. Halliwell also appeared in several films. Halliwell made her film debut back in 1995 in the movie Foggy Nation and recently Halliwell was seen in Gran Turismo (2023). In addition, Halliwell also featured as herself in the Netflix series Drive to Survive.

Relationship Geri Halliwell and Robbie Williams

In the 1990s, Robbie Williams and Geri Halliwell were briefly a star couple. Both famous for their music, but the relationship did not last long. In his recently released documentary, Williams revealed why things broke down between him and Halliwell. Paparazzi kept following the couple. When Williams asked how they always knew where the couple was anyway, the journalist claimed that Halliwell always let journalists know. Williams believed that at the time and broke up with Halliwell. Now Williams looks at it very differently and no longer believes these stories.

Geri Halliwell married Christian Horner on 15 May 2015. Halliwell had met the Red Bull Racing team boss in 2014 and on 11 November 2014, the couple announced their engagement.
