Sauber, known as Alfa Romeo last season, had a tough year. The team managed to score only 16 points in total, which was good for ninth place in the constructors' championship. Valtteri Bottas is quite clear about what needs to change to achieve a better result: the entire car.

In a press event with GPBlog and others, the 2023 season was discussed with the Finn. He is asked what he takes with him from this season into next season. "The main thing is we need a new car. It needs to be different. So that's, I would say, the biggest take we take from this year. Clearly, we've hit the end with this car's development. We just haven't been able to find anything big. So the whole concept needs to be different. So that's what we've learned."

Positive about 2024

There is also talk about next season's car. Bottas is positive about what he has seen of the new car so far. "At this point, what I've seen, I'm happy because there are differences. I think that's what we need. Many question marks. It's still early days, but at least we're seeing progress. And the last few weeks have been quite productive."

Bottas' positivity comes mainly from the new technical developments the team has made and the hiring of new staff. "I feel like with so many new people, including James, there's stuff happening. And he's got obviously lots of knowledge from even this year's McLaren. I'm sure there's good information coming from different people. So that is good to see. I think that's what we needed."
