Alpine will participate in the 2024 World Endurance Championship with two Hypercars. Three drivers already working with the Alpine Endurance Team will be included in the programme: Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Charles Milesi. In addition, Paul-Loup Chatin, Ferdinand Habsburg and Mick Schumacher have been confirmed as part of the line-up.

In October, Schumacher drove a prototype endurance car for the first time. The son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher was impressed with his first appearance, and after this, Alpine decided to invite him as a permanent member of the endurance team.

"A new chapter is beginning for me with Alpine in the FIA WEC Hypercar category. The car is impressive, and I can't wait to get started. I've grown up with single-seaters, so driving a car with a closed cockpit and covered wheels is a great opportunity to hone my driving skills," Schumacher commented.

He continued: "I sorely missed racing this year; it's what I've loved to do since I was a kid, and it was sometimes difficult to watch the other drivers take to the track. Endurance racing is a new challenge for me, and I'm sure we will share great moments together next year with Alpine."

In the endurance championship, Schumacher will meet another familiar face: on Monday, Toyota Gazoo Racing confirmed that Nyck de Vries will race in the Hypercar category on behalf of the team in 2024.

Still reserve for Mercedes

Mercedes' F1 team has confirmed that in addition to his role as a full-time driver in WEC, Schumacher will still remain active as a reserve driver for the German team led by Toto Wolff.
