Max Verstappen looks set to win his third Formula 1 world title in Qatar. The Dutchman, should he win the world title, will join an iconic list of names. The Dutchman himself is just not that happy with the elections within his own country when it comes to sportsman and sportswoman of the year.

"Everyone was amazing in their own right, in their own sport. I'm just happy and I'm proud that I'm Dutch," Verstappen declared in front of GPblog. "I remember when I grew up, you realise these kind of amazing athletes. I think as a country, we should just be proud. It doesn't matter who's the best or second best," the reigning world champion continued.

Verstappen: 'Ridiculous prize'

"I don't even want to win it. Because it's about just appreciating all the talent we have as a country. We should just celebrate all the success that we have as a country. That's why I find it such a ridiculous prize all the time. I'm just saying that I find it unfair for some people who are putting so much effort in their sport and they achieve incredible results. And sometimes they don't get awarded for it because of this silly, stupid one prize for one particular person," explained the Red Bull Racing driver.

In 2022, Verstappen was voted sportsman of the year in the Netherlands for the third time. If the 26-year-old driver adds another championship this coming weekend, there also seems to be a chance that he will win this award for the fourth time.
