Hamilton: Just another race

Hamilton: Just "another race"

19-10-2018 10:44

Lewis Hamilton has a very good chance of winning the title this weekend in America, but you wouldn’t know it by talking to him. If Hamilton wins and Sebastian Vettel finishes third or lower then it is game over, title number five for Lewis. Alternatively, Hamilton needs to score just eight more points that the German to clinch it.

Despite all the attention surrounding the potential claiming of the title and going level with Juan Manuel Fangio on five championship wins, Hamilton ensures us that he is still focussed on the job at hand, which is this race, no matter what comes after.

“It just feels like another race weekend that we have, another race that we want to win,” Hamilton said.

“It’s a simple goal for us, we just arrive trying to do the same thing. Our goal is really just to perform as we have in the previous races. We’re not thinking of it in any other way.

“As a team, none of us are saying ‘how cool would it be if it happened this weekend’, we are not focusing on ifs. We are focusing on making sure we deliver.”

The Mercedes driver has been in inspired form since the summer break, winning four of the five races and finishing second in the other.

His hot streak has coincided with a poor patch from Ferrari and Vettel. He has not achieved more than third place in any race since he won in Belgium and seems to be way off the pace heading into one of Hamilton’s favourite tracks this weekend.
