Vandoorne secures seat in WEC for 2024 after performance in hypercar

Stoffel Vandoorne has secured a full-time seat with Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship for 2024. He recently competed for the team at Fuji, making his debut in the 9X8 Hypercar.

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with GPblog, Vandoorne expressed his hopes for a permanent seat in the WEC. So that wish has now come true, much to the delight of the Belgian driver, who can 'finally' announce the news.

"I’m really happy to join the team as an official driver for the 2024 season. I have always appreciated the FIA WEC and am familiar with it as I raced in 2019 and 2021," the driver revealed in a statement.

"My goal was clearly to come back to this championship and even more now with the Hypercar class, with so many manufacturers. Having the opportunity to fight for the victory and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is fantastic and I think it’s a dream for a lot of drivers. I’m really glad to be part of this team and excited to start with Peugeot," Vandoorne said.

Vandoorne joined Peugeot as a reserve driver in 2023, alongside his Formula E seat at DS Penske. In Fuji, the ultimate opportunity in WEC presented itself: the Belgian was allowed to replace the injured Nico Müller, making his debut in the number 94 hypercar. Vandoorne finished seventh together with Loic Duval and Gustavo Menezes (who will leave the team in 2024) and will thus drive full-time for the team next year.
