Gasly in battle with Verstappen: 'Was just close racing'

Pierre Gasly finished in a handsome third position at Zandvoort. The Frenchman took full advantage of Sergio Perez's time penalty, but in addition, he drove a strong race on his own. Gasly experienced a moment with Max Verstappen in the Hugenholtz corner in the opening phase, but he did not make a big issue of it.

Gasly was suddenly in third place thanks to quick thinking on the Alpine pit wall. At the third corner, Verstappen made the overtaking move on Gasly, with the Frenchman appearing to be pushed to the outside. However, Gasly had little trouble with the Dutchman's action.

Gasly: 'It was just racing, close racing'

"I've finished more than five seconds behind Max, so it doesn't really matter to me," Gasly said. "It was a wheel-to-wheel battle Max knew that if it would push me slightly wide on the paint in the wet, if I put a wheel on there, then I'll just understeer wide. It was on the limit. If I'll be in this position and you got to pass a car, you'll play with the limit and that's why you'll try, so, I'm not too fussy about it. It was just racing, close racing." In the end, Verstappen's action was also left unpunished by race control.
