'Test didn’t make up their mind on Ricciardo, end of line with De Vries'

Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle is very happy to see Daniel Ricciardo back in the sport, although he feels sorry for Nyck de Vries, who saw his F1 career come to a cruel and untimely end.

"The sport is better off with Daniel Ricciardo there," Brundle stated on the Sky Sports website. The Briton is surprised by the Australian's return, though. "Wow. Daniel's going to do that, is he?' It surprised me. He [had] lost his mojo, and he needs to get his enthusiasm back, so I didn't think he'd take that unless there's another deal that goes with it," said the commentator, referring to a possible continuation of his career at Red Bull, provided he does well.

Therefore, the pressure is on the eight-time Grand Prix winner heavily. Newly-formed teammate Yuki Tsunoda is in good form and will be the first hurdle towards a competitive seat in the pinnacle of motorsport. According to the reporter, he "absolutely" needs to beat Tsunoda to have a future in F1. 

'Were done with De Vries'

Brundle thinks the tyre test the Perth man received is unrelated to his return. "[He drove] on a track that's rubbered in from the Grand Prix. It's not representative, and I can't believe that's what made their mind up. They've not exactly hidden the fact that they were getting to the end of the line with De Vries." The Sky Sports man feels sorry for the Dutchman, who he says will end up in a line of talented drivers who did not pass the Red Bull test: "I'm sad for Nyck because I know he's better than that."
