Sergio Perez caught up nicely at the Austrian Grand Prix. The Mexican Red Bull driver started from 15th place but eventually managed to move up to third, ending up on the podium in Austria as a result. The 33-year-old driver revealed in the post-race press conference that the podium spot pleased him.

Track limit violations played a major part during Sunday's race, but Perez thinks it affected every driver. "I think everyone got hit by it at some point. Hopefully, next year when we come back, it's something that can be fixed. But anyway, that meant that we sat the P15 for the race today and we just had to fight our way through it."

Perez not fit during Austrian Gran Prix

Due to illness during race week, Perez did not appear 100% fit at the start of the Austrian Grand Prix, but in the end, he was able to put that out of his mind. "We had some great pace, some great battles out there, but in the end, it's a good one, especially not being close to 100% physically. But with all the adrenaline going on, you forget about everything," Perez said.

The 15 points gained mean the Red Bull driver can be happy again in the world championship standings. Perez has increased the lead over Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.
