It is an image that is burned into many Formula 1 viewers' minds: Toto Wolff smashing his headphones. Several headphones were smashed during a tantrum by the Mercedes team boss, who says he is not proud of it.

Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner already indicated that it is not his style to smash headphones, no matter how frustrated he would be. He stressed that while he feels the emotion in such a case, he does not want to show it to his opponent.

Wolff overcome by emotions

Faced with his rival's comment, Wolff told Sky Sports: "I don't think too much about what he thinks, but I'm just trying to be authentic, and I'm very emotional and show my heart on my sleeve often. I'm taking it badly when somebody tries to harm the team."

The 51-year-old Austrian says he himself does not like the fact that his outbursts can be seen on television worldwide, but adds that sometimes he is overwhelmed by emotions. "Sometimes the headphones break, and when I see that I'm not proud, and my emotions have put me into trouble when I was an adolescent also, but it's just who I am," Wolff said.
