McLaren makes changes for Austria: These are the upgrades

McLaren's season is not going as previously hoped. Apart from a single outlier, the former top team has been unable to impress this season. A paltry 17 points drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri only managed to accumulate. Largely, this is due to the MCL60. McLaren has been aware for some time that it has missed the mark, so it has been working hard on major modifications.

In Austria, McLaren are coming out with the necessary updates. According to Auto, Motor und Sport, the team from Woking in England will introduce a new floor, new sidepods and a new sole cover, the first set of modifications for the British team. At Silverstone, the team will then introduce new wings, and an upgrade of the mechanical part of the car will then follow in Hungary. By necessity, a three-step plan has been adopted; as soon as parts are ready, they are put on the car. The wings and mechanics are not ready yet for McLaren.

Norris finds Red Bull Ring 'one of my favourite circuits'

Meanwhile, the drivers are preparing for the Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring: "The Canadian Grand Prix was a difficult one, but fun. There was some good overtaking, and we were able to fight for points on the track. Since then, I’ve been back at the MTC and in the sim this week to prepare for Austria. The Red Bull Ring is one of my favourite circuits. It holds a lot of good memories for me, having scored my first podium there. It’s a Sprint weekend too, which always makes it more interesting. It’s all looking promising, so we’ll get out there and give it our all."

His teammate Oscar Piastri was also at the McLaren factory last week, preparing for Spielberg: "I’m looking forward to returning to the Red Bull Ring, this time in an F1 car. I quite enjoyed the new Sprint format in Baku, so I’m looking forward to experiencing that again this weekend and hopefully bringing back some points for the team.”
