Formula One journalist Mark Hughes saw absolute dominance from Max Verstappen at the Monaco Grand Prix. In rainy conditions, Verstappen, as so often this season, finished in first place. Hughes saw that the Dutchman was the best in all areas.

"Verstappen was masterful, not just in the way he controlled his race with such sure-footedness wet or dry, but also in how he managed the tyres. Red Bull needn’t have worried. Verstappen had it all in hand." Hughes told The Race.

Verstappen and Red Bull in the championship

According to Hughes, Verstappen's tyre strategies are indicative of Red Bull Racing's dominance this season. "The gap Verstappen had built up allowed them this luxury. Even if Alonso had got straight onto inters, it wouldn’t have been enough to put Verstappen under serious pressure."

Verstappen's masterclass has ensured that the Red Bull driver is now on 144 points in the world championship. Red Bull need not worry in the constructors' championship either, as Aston Martin follows on 129 points.
