For the F1 teams, it is a logistical challenge: where to leave the cars, materials and trucks, now that the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix has been cancelled? Some teams even appear to be driving all the way back to their home base in Britain.

Sander Dorsman, the team boss of Dutch MP Motorsport (racing in Formula 2) explained to GPblog on Wednesday afternoon that time slots are agreed on which all participants in a Grand Prix weekend are allowed to drive their big trucks into the paddock for the next race. In the case of Formula 2, in Monaco that is Tuesday morning, as the support classes are already in action on Thursday.

No 24/7 access

Tight time slots are necessary to avoid massive traffic chaos, as it is hundreds of huge trucks used for a Grand Prix. Formula 1 teams also have set times when their trucks are allowed access. So in normal cases, it is not possible to drive onto the paddock in Monaco in advance, for example, during this Thursday.

German newspaper Bild has learned that several teams therefore park the F1 cars in their factories for a few days. For Ferrari, this is easy, as Maranello is more than eighty kilometres from Imola. Incidentally, the Italian marque's cars had not yet arrived in Imola. Some of the Mercedes and Haas teams, for example, are travelling back to England, where their factories are located.

The teams are expected to have no problems arriving in Monaco on time.
