Button not surprised by Verstappen: 'Always been exceptional'

Jenson Button sees the title fight this season in Formula 1 going between Red Bull Racing. The one-time world champion did not expect to conclude so early in the year that no challenger is capable of making things difficult for the Austrian racing stable. Max Verstappen, as he did in 2022, again impressed Button.

"No way, not like this," Button responded when asked by La Gazzetta dello Sport if he expected this level of dominance. "I'm surprised by all the advantage they have over Ferrari. Of course I didn't expect Mercedes' problems either, but they did exceptionally well in Milton Keynes, they interpreted the new regulations in the best way."

Not only is the RB19 incredibly good, the drivers driving the car are also doing extremely well. Button is pleased to see that Perez has already managed to challenge his Dutch teammate a few times. "Verstappen is super fast, and Perez is doing great. That's good, because it's not nice that always the same guy wins. We need battles, even between cars of the same team."

Personality Verstappen

Verstappen already has three wins to his name and is currently 14 points ahead of Perez in the championship. The former Formula One driver is not surprised by the level Verstappen is ticking up again this season. "He has always been exceptional. What I like about him is that he says what he thinks. It's nice that there are such different personalities in Formula 1. If everyone looked alike, it would be boring."
