Ferrari has embarked on an adventure with hypercars in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The project looks set to succeed. For now, the Italians seem to be the main challenger to Totota, which has dominated WEC for years. During the second free practice for the six hours of Spa at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Ferrari was fastest on Thursday.

Former Formula 1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi was the fastest, with a time better than the morning's best time (set by Sebastien Buemi in a Toyota) of 2:01.871. The Italian was 1.278s faster than Molina in the second Ferrari. The latter missed much of the session with technical problems. Earl Bamber put a Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac in third place. Friday is qualifying, Saturday is the race.

Problems for Van der Zande

Incidentally, the session saw two red flags. In the other Cadillac, Renger van der Zande stalled, while Dane Cameron also had to park his hypercar. The second factory Porsche lost time as Andre Lotterer had problems with the hybrid systems.

In LMP2, Robin Frijns set the pace with his WRT ORECA Gibson. He was 0.410 minutes faster than Portuguese Filipe Albuquerque, driving a United Autosports car.
