Helmut Marko celebrates his 80th birthday on Thursday. It will not be a big family affair, as the Red Bull Racing consultant will fly with his team to Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

As far as Marko is concerned, there is especially no big fuss made about his 80th birthday. Asked where he will celebrate, he replied, "On the plane to Baku." Nevertheless, Red Bull will undoubtedly organise a party for the man from Graz, who has long been closely involved with the Austrian racing stable and played a key role in several major decisions, including the one on Max Verstappen's arrival.

Marko on Tost's departure

Speaking to Austrian OE24, the Red Bull advisor first discusses Franz Tost 's imminent departure as team boss at AlphaTauri. "It was a friendly conversation in Hangar-7 with Oliver Mintzlaff and me. Franz Tost himself was also present," Marko began. "Tost will stay until the end of the year, after which he will move to an advisory role."

So no full departure for Tost, who will hand over the baton next year to outgoing Ferrari chief Laurent Mekies. For Marko himself, a departure is not in the cards for the time being, although he is not yet commenting on his plans for the coming years. "For now, that's really not on the cards. First let's win the championship and then we'll see," he assured.

Can Verstappen or Perez give Marko the perfect birthday present?

Unlike Verstappen, Marko likes the new sprint format. "The organiser can sell Friday and Saturday better, the paying public is offered more spectacle and there is more action for everyone," stated the Austrian. He also sees Verstappen still able to change his mind: "If he wins, he's convinced of the whole thing anyway."

The Red Bull chief does not see a big celebration, but there is one thing at the top of his wish list: "I don't want a big fuss. A win in Baku would be the best present," Marko said. It is possible that either Verstappen or teammate Sergio Perez will be able to fulfil Marko's wish this weekend.
