Former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat hopes to aim high in the World Endurance Championship(WEC) next weekend with PREMA. In the past, the Russian was active in Formula 1, including for Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri and as a test driver for Ferrari. Kvyat therefore knows Laurent Mekies and Franz Tost like no other.

Just after the news broke that Franz Tost was leaving as AlphaTauri team boss at the end of this season and Mekies will succeed him, Kvyat sat down for an interview with GPblog. The Russian, also racing for Red Bull Racing in the past, had just read the news about the switch on the internet.

Kvyat worked with both

"Mekies was previously working at Toro Rosso, when I did my first test there. Tost was the team boss. Later I also met Laurent at Ferrari, yes. I am happy for them, for Laurent as well as Franz. I think Franz wanted some rest," Kvyat told GP Blog.

The 67-year-old Tost recently let slip that he will not be active in Formula 1 for too long. That his farewell is going to be at the end of the season then again came a little unexpected.

An extensive interview with Daniil Kvyat will appear soon on GPblog.
