'Formula 1 adds extra 'driver' to parade lap for Silverstone GP'

For visitors to a Grand Prix, it is a regular thing: a few hours before the race starts, the 20 drivers pass by during the parade lap. Sometimes in historic cars, other times together on an open trailer of a truck.

Such a parade lap will also take place at Silverstone later this season. Then, not 20, but 21 drivers will join. Hollywood star Brad Pitt may in fact take part in the ride, as part of the filming for the film (co)produced by Lewis Hamilton. So reports UK tabloid newspaper The Sun.

Special permission granted

It was already known that the film crew was going to have an emphatic presence during the British Grand Prix. It was already known that there would be filming, so now it is clear that, among other things, the parade lap will be captured on film. Pitt has received special permission from Formula 1 to take part in the lap.

The Sun is at least looking forward to the parade immensely. The newspaper quotes a source as saying, "Watching Brad Pitt lead the field in the British Grand Prix will be an incredible and surreal moment for TV viewers and fans at Silverstone in July." In the film, whose release date is unknown, Pitt (59) plays a driver who is set to make his comeback in F1.
