Williams doing best to be on "right side" of 2019 rules

Williams technical director Paddy Lowe will be preparing his team to be on the "right side" of next season's regulations, as they hope to climb out of the hole they're currently in, sitting in last place in the championship.

Lowe believes the tweak in the regulations will give the lesser, under-performing teams (like themselves) will have an opportunity to start over and potentially climb the table, íf they get their designs right.

F1 owner Liberty Media have made an effort to improve the sport's spectacle by trying to increase the amount of overtakes in an average race, and they're doing so by making a series of aerodynamic changes.

A simpler front wing (with standardized end-plates) should reduce turbulence for chasing cars, thus making it more favourable to be in a slip-stream.

"I'm sure a lot of stuff will have to be re-optimised," Lowe told F1i.

"We haven't got that far with it, we're starting from the front at the moment and working our way back!

"It is quite a big change, so change is always an opportunity to do well.

"We're very conscious of that and working very hard to be the right side of that opportunity and make some ground.

"It could be a disruption."
