Sainz is very worried: 'We didn't see this coming'

Ferrari is in dire straits. That much is clear. The Italians hoped to win the world title for the first time in 15 years this season, but is in reality the third or fourth team on the grid. Driver Carlos Sainz, in conversation with Motorsportweek.com complaining about the current situation.

"Obviously, the start of the season has been tough and we’ve faced issues with race pace and reliability that we honestly didn’t expect to face and it caught us a bit out of guard," the Spaniard honestly said. Sainz has been unable to compete for the podium spots during the first two races of the season, while teammate Charles Leclerc has already had to take a grid penalty due to broken engine parts.

'Ferrari needs to raise the bar'

Ferrari also lacks speed in the car. "It’s simply a sign that there’s someone out there just doing a bit of a better job than us and that we need to raise the bar. " Sainz concluded. He is confident his team will find the way up. "I think we’re going to do a good job this year on development, that we have a very clear target of what we need to improve from the car, the car is responding exactly same as in the wind tunnel", the one-time race winner said.
