For Nico Hulkenberg, it had been a while since he was allowed to qualify for a Formula 1 race, but in Bahrain he immediately set the tone. The Haas driver made it to Q3 and will start tenth on the grid at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Hulkenberg impresses on comeback

Hulkenberg is rightly happy with Saturday's result, but at the same time he realises all too well that on Sunday the points will be handed out. "A good quali is nice to have in the bag, but it's all about tomorrow," he declared to, among others GPblog. He can pocket the qualifying result, but he expects a "tough, challenging race".

The Haas driver saw his lap time in Q3 crossed out, but did not venture another attempt. "We only had one new set of soft tyres, so that was my only my only lap," he explained. "It wasn't ideal because I was coming to the last corner, so I pretty much used that soft tyre already. It gave me a read of the car." As a result, Hulkenberg did not start his final flying lap in the best possible way.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old German can be satisfied with the result posted. "Obviously I had the speed in the car and happy that I was able to yeah, produce and extract those laps," Hulkenberg said.
