What a day for Nikita Mazepin, the GP3 driver completed 51 laps for Force India but his car was also responsible for bringing out the red flag twice.

The second day of the in season test at the Hungaroring saw MAzepin stop on track at turn 11 in the morning and then in the afternoon he was forced to pull over to the side of the track at turn 13 with a smoking engine.

19-year old Russian Mazepin currently drives in GP3 for ART Grand Prix, and he has two wins in eight races so far as he sits fourth in the championship.

One of those wins was in the feature race at the Hungaroring, so he has experience of the track already.

He said about the test: “I was extremely excited to be back in the car and I am happy with the way we worked.

“We had a couple of issues with the car that prevented us from completing our programme, but we were still able to have some meaningful running and complete more than 50 laps.

“I am grateful to the crew for their hard work.”

Mazepin is Force India test driver for the season and with the team facing financial troubles, he will be hoping the team survive to provide him with more valuable F1 experience.

“Working with the team is incredible: even though I have been with this group of people for two years now, every time I am testing I am impressed by the level of professionalism and expertise that surrounds me.

“There is so much I can learn from the engineers and I am determined to give the best possible feedback to help the team progress.”
