It was announced late last year that Haas team boss Günther Steiner will publish a book on the 2022 F1 season next April. In an interview with Speedcafe.com the Italian talks about his rationale for Surviving to Drive.

"We actually picked a good year, I think, to write a book, to have something to tell a story to people who are interested in this stuff," said the man who became a phenomenon following Netflix hit Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

2022 is marked as a tumultuous year for the US racing team. Even before the start of the season, they said goodbye to Russian sponsor Uralkali and driver Nikita Mazepin because of the war in Ukraine. Kevin Magnussen took Mazepin's place and even clinched pole position.

The impact of Drive to Survive

"Hopefully people enjoy it. This is not what I’m going to do in the rest of my life – being an author – but it’s one of these projects I normally do."

Steiner's popularity soared after Drive to Survive appeared - the series highlights the Italian as a man of tough but comical words and a sometimes controversial approach. However, DTS has been criticised for the way footage has been cut and pasted, sometimes making things look more dramatic than they actually are (we see, for example, particularly the moments when Steiner goes off the deep end). For once, a book like this will highlight Steiner's take on things within the team and perhaps offer more of an explanation of his actions.

The Italian is not worried about what people will think of the book: "If it isn’t good, nobody will buy it, and nobody gets hurt, basically. But if people like to read it and enjoy it, that’s a good thing."
