Ecclestone lashes out at modern rules and regulations in F1

Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has lashed out at the rules and regulations in the sport today. He insists they seem to implemented to stop drivers from racing.

Ecclestone, 87, was forced out of his position following the buy-out by Liberty Media. This was just over a year ago.

“I said a little while ago when I was involved, technical regulations are more important than sporting regulations. They should have written across the top: don’t race,” Ecclestone told f1i.com.

“These drivers, if they do something that perhaps the team owners or sponsors doesn’t suit them, they get a slap: don’t do that anymore! All the regulations are there to stop people racing.”

F1 are going to make changes next season with new aerodynamic rules coming into play. They are intended to increase overtaking while regulations coming in for the 2021 season are for a full overhaul of engine regulations and how teams operate.

In his latest interview, he finally admits that sport and F1 have moved on and changed from how they used to be. He may actually be claiming it was a good move for him to leave.

“It needs promoters to promote the event in a way that will attract the public. Really all types of sports have changed from the eighties. Those days, really the most important thing wasn’t the finance - it was to do a good job,” he added.
