Ferrari built a car this calendar year with which it seemed to be competing for the world title. In the opening stages of the season, Charles Leclerc had an advantage over Max Verstappen, but he soon lost that position. Romain Grosjean, however, thinks 2022 will be a prelude to a stronger Ferrari in the new season.

The Italian formation intervened hard behind the scenes this autumn by parting ways with team boss Mattia Binotto and appointing Frederic Vasseur as his replacement. The Frenchman must ensure Ferrari takes the world championship in the coming seasons, although this will not be an easy task.

Grosjean's confidence in Leclerc

Indeed, not only did a lot go wrong for Ferrari strategically, but the engine proved to be less reliable than thought. In addition, Leclerc made some significant mistakes, which caused him to miss out on points in the championship. According to Grosjean, however, Ferrari need not worry about the Monegasque.

"Charles has been doing a great job," the former Formula One driver began in conversation with Motorsport Magazine. "He made a few mistakes, but it’s always when you try to catch up that you make mistakes. If you’re at the front and things are very smooth, it’s kind of easier than when you’re trying to catch up."

Grosjean is therefore convinced that the Italians have had a learning season and that Ferrari will come back strong next race year. "I think Ferrari’s going to learn from this year and I think they will be in the mix next year," he said.
