Speaking to the Dutch branch of Motorsport.com, Max Verstappen talks more about his bond with his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. The two have been working together since the Dutchman joined Red Bull Racing in 2016. The relationship is so good that Verstappen previously indicated he would not want to continue in Formula 1 if his engineer quit.

According to Verstappen, one thing that is very important to him in his relationship with his engineer is being honest with each other. This is also an important point for Verstappen as a person. He continues that it is extremely important to be able to trust your race engineer. He does not mean just trust, but really complete blind trust. So also in things that are suggested in terms of set-up. Verstappen says the importance of such a relationship is still underestimated in Formula 1.

Tension

Of course, Verstappen and Lambiase do not always get along. Sometimes you can hear heated discussions over the radio, which brings out the tension that comes between the driver and his engineer during a race, even for the viewers at home. Verstappen openly says that it is precisely because of these moments that they both come out stronger. According to the 25-year-old, there is nothing wrong if he sometimes has a discussion with the engineer, as they both want to perform the best, then a discussion is sometimes necessary. Verstappen explains that from the car things do not always come across well, but after the race these things are always discussed afterwards.
